Perast

Perast is one of the most attractive destinations in the Bay of Kotor with picturesque baroque architecture and unusual beauty, which you can often see in the most famous world magazines about tourism. What is characteristic of this old city is its peacefulness and quietness making it the ideal place to rest at the sea. A poet Frano Alfirevic once said that Perast is the quietest town in the Bay of Kotor. This poet's bust is located on the famous artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks, opposite Perast, which is certainly worth visiting. The origin of this island is related to the legend, according to which the sailors in 1452 found an icon of the Madonna with a Child on a rock in the middle of the sea.

Since then, it has become a tradition for sailors, after successful sailing, to lay stones along the shores of Our Lady of the Rocks, so over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea. The church on the island contains a large number of pieces of art, as well as an unusual tapestry, which, for 25 years, embroidered Jacinta Kunić-Mijović, waiting for her darling to return from the sea and into which she has embroidered her own hair, golden in her youth and silver in her old age. Perast is a place that many wanted to conquer through history, from the Byzantine Empire to Venetian, Hungarian, French and Austrian conquerors, and they all left their mark on it. In the central square of the city there is the church of St. Nicholas with its impressive bell tower, 55 meters high.
